Bellus Academy is always looking for ways to help students stay on the cutting edge of the beauty industry. We recognize the demand for highly-skilled individuals in barbershops and salons around the nation. That’s why we have introduced a dual barbering and cosmetology program for students who are ready to take their careers to the next level.
Our new program is a fusion of barbering and cosmetology. Two skills that work beautifully together and give students the opportunity to become valuable in most any workplace. While there are salons that focus solely on women’s services, there are many that offer both men’s and women’s cuts. The skills learned in our hybrid program are in demand for salons that cater to men and women.
This program is 1800 hours and includes techniques from cosmetology like hairstyling, cutting, coloring, facials, waxing, manicures and pedicures, but also includes barbering skills with a clipper and straight razor on both men’s and women’s hair.
This program is not for the faint of heart. Applicants should be serious about starting in the industry with dual licensure.
This program cost is $25,775 and 1800 hours.
It starts in our National City location on September 27th, 2016.
There are day programs that can be completed in a year.
Night programs are also available that can be completed in 17 months.
Why Dual Licensure?
Like any other degree, the amount of hours you have dedicated to your education will be reflected in your skill set when you graduate.
These finely honed skills will also make you more valuable in the workplace. Because you can be licensed in both cosmetology and in barbering, you will be able to perform more services than you would with just one.
The main difference between this program and separate barbering and cosmetology programs is the fact that you will have all the skills associated with being a cosmetologist with the specific straight razoring techniques only taught to barbers.
Straight razoring techniques are growing in popularity due to the rise of men’s fashion and grooming. You may have seen this trend featured on social media sites such as Instagram. Straight razor experts like Farzad show off the traditional skills on his IG page: @farzadthehappybarber
Straight razoring is also gaining popularity in women’s cuts. You may recognize the trendy undercut as a style that requires the blade skills of someone like Lindsey Zenker of High & Tight Barbershop: @lindseyzenker.
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, barbering occupations are one of the fastest growing in demand. Projected to grow 10% between 2014-24.
California is one of the top states in the U.S. with a demand for barbers, as per barber-schools.org.
About Cosmetology VS Barbering
Cosmetology is often 80% hair styling, cutting, coloring and design. Students will also learn skincare, waxing and nail care.
Barbering is learning men’s and women’s cutting, styling and design. The differential factor is that cosmetologists are not allowed to use a straight razor.
In our barbering program, we swap out skin and nail care, along with waxing, to teach students the art of straight razoring.
The Student Value
Like our other programs, this cosmetology/barbering kit is job-ready. It includes all tools available in the cosmo and barbering programs.
The iPads, online labs, and hands-on learning techniques are all a part of this extensive class. We offer lectures, demonstrations, and the chance to work with clients and mannequins.
Space is limited for this high-intensity, hybrid program. If you think you’re ready, contact us now to apply.
Bellus Academy provides more than just an education, we provide the skills, business training, and techniques necessary to enter the field with confidence.
