Hair Nerds Come to Bellus Academy

Bellus Academy is nationally recognized as one of the leading innovators in beauty and wellness education. Their instructional team provides students with one of the finest technical educations available in the nation. Bellus features The S.T.A.R. Precision Haircutting System, developed by Artistic Director Diego Raviglione and Master Educator Nick Berardi, is designed to give the best foundation in the art of percision haircutting. S.T.A.R. haircutting system is designed to evolve as the student’s technical skills and creativity become stronger, building the confidence and knowledge these cosmo cuties need to find success in our industry.  Bellus Academy has four locations in Poway, El Cajon, Chula Vista, CA and Manhattan, KS. We have had the pleasure of meeting many of these rockstar students and passionate educators over the years with their constant participation in competitions and events such as TrendVision and the Annual P&G Student competition. So getting the chance to spend the day at Bellus was really exciting and so much fun! Kansas 1st Alumni Event & S.T.A.R Winner Kelsey Van Nort

On September 30, 2013 Bellus Academy Manhattan campus held its first annual industry and alumni event at their campus located in Westloop.  This was a exciting evening featuring Michael Haase owner of the renowned concept salon Platinum Black.  Michael presented on stage at the academy to a host of premier salons and alumni from the Kansas area his interpretation of hair cut and color through the decades with today’s modern influence. . The highlight of the evening was the Nickeducation STAR competition which featured the cut and color work of Bellus students utilizing S.T.A.R. cutting and color techniques. This cutting color curriculum developed by Artistic Director Diego Raviglione , Master Stylist Nick Berardi and Color Director Carrera Bailey is used in all Bellus academies and features 2 competitions a year.

Honorable mention was awarded to Academy student Merrina Casanova.  Second place was awarded to Angela Quinonez  who received a professional Salono kit that included a Salono dryer and flat iron.  First place was awarded to Kelsey Van Nort (Pictured Right) who received a pair of Mizutani Shears.  Kelsey’s winning entry included inspiration from the S.T.A.R. cut and color page from nickeducation.com.  Kelsey was influenced by the square bob fringe line as well as the short to long layer haircut with forward graduation.  “Winning the contest was surreal to me as I am very passionate about my work and to have wonderful professionals like Diego, Nick, Michael and Carrera select my project as the winner was an amazing experience and a huge honor,” Stated Kelsey.

Actress Tippi Hedren Honored With Legacy of Style Award

On Monday, September 25, NAILS Magazine and our sister publication VietSALON joined CND and Beauty Changes Lives (BCL) in honoring actress and philanthropist Tippi Hedren with the 2nd annual BCL Legacy of Style Award at the Peninsula Hotel in Beverly Hills, Calif. The Legacy of Style Award is presented to industry leaders, whose vision and commitment elevate the beauty and wellness industry. The first inaugural award was presented to Vidal Sassoon, post-mortem in 2012.

Ms. Hedren (best known as the star of Alfred Hitchcock’s “The Birds”) was selected as the recipient of this prestigious award for her commitment and numerous contributions to the professional nail industry. She is credited with sparking a movement that would forever change the face of the nail industry.

In addition to honoring Ms. Hedren, CND’s Jan Arnold and BCL’s Lynelle Lynch also announced the Beauty Changes Lives CND Tippi Hedren Nail Scholarship Fund. Created to elevate, educate, and expose the nail profession as a rich and rewarding career, the scholarships will be available for any students enrolling in a nail program at any AACS-accredited school. BCL will be accepting applications beginning early next year. CND, on behalf of the company and its Vietnamese partner distributors, presented a donation of $184,000 to Beauty Changes Lives.

“It is such a delight to honor Tippi Hedren’s life-long commitment to the education and empowerment of women in the nail community,” said Jan Arnold, co-founder of CND. “Tippi has been, and continues to be, an inspiration to women around the world; her contributions to the nail profession will live long thanks to her namesake scholarship,” added Arnold.

Hedren added, “I am honored to accept this award and to lend my name to the BCL CND scholarship fund as I know it will bring new opportunities to many young women and men aspiring to join the nail profession.”

CND and Beauty Changes Lives Announce Tippi Hedren Nail Scholarship

At an invite-only party during Cosmoprof North America, Beauty Changes Lives (BCL) and CND announced the new BCL CND Tippi Hedren Nail Scholarship Fund. Founded to support professional nail education, the Scholarship Fund honors actress Hedren’s role in helping shape the nail industry by being at the forefront of the Vietnamese nail salon movement. Bellus Academy participates in Fashion Week San Diego

On Wednesday, October 2nd FWSD featured global beauty industry experts lifting the veil behind the beauty industry.  They  talked intimately about their experience and answer questions specific to their profession: fashion, art, nails, hair & makeup.  These international beauty industry experts include Lynelle Lynch from Bellus Academy, Jan Nordstrom Arnold of CND Nails, Claudio Lazo of Wella and Kevin James Bennett of MUD.

In addition to our expert speakers Fashion Week San Diego® Wednesday night includes a panel of experts talking about how beauty & art effects fashion and vice versa. Panelists include Leilani Angel of Bellus Academy, Travis Parker, Brian Hawkins of FIDM/Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising and Dean Hall.
