Stay Connected

Terrell’s number one piece of advice for Bellus Academy students is to stay connected and look for different community and outreach events. It’s all about who you know in the industry and you never know who you might meet at an event. Terrell encourages students to go out and create a community anywhere and everywhere.

Volunteer

Terrell enjoys working with organizations such as Project Homeless Connect. As a stylist, it gives him a unique way to reach out and give back to the community. He enjoys the heartfelt and personal experiences that give him the ability to touch hearts and lives through styling.

Show What You Know

Terrell encourages community involvement by teaching younger children about the beauty and wellness industry. Going into an after-school program and teaching kids about a simple haircut or hairstyle shows them a new avenue they can take in life. Teaching local students what they can do with their futures helps to cultivate their educational interests.

He encourages students to teach basic beauty and wellness tips as a way of giving back. Terrell has always been interested in helping those less fortunate and he advises students to research ways they can give back and try to inspire others.

Network

Terrell networks with LinkedIn and emphasizes the importance of knowing how to communicate in the industry. Social media networking is key as there are so many ways to show off your work and stay involved with the latest trends. Platforms such as Instagram allow your work to be seen by people all over the world, including potential employers. He advises students to always have their business cards with them as well, because you never know who will enjoy your style and want to become a client.

He also believes that it is important for students to look the part and present themselves in the industry as ready to take on the world. He says putting yourself out there with confidence will take you a long way.

Keep Learning

Education in the beauty and wellness industry should always progress. You never stop learning. It is important to stay connected to your school, help teach what you have learned, and constantly be refining your skills. Terrell says to always challenge yourself and keep the door to education open.

Terrell enjoys giving back by working with students, passing along all of the knowledge he has gained. He encourages students to stay humble, professional, never give up, make new goals, and always think ahead.
