REQUIREMENTS FOR ADMISSION

California Requirements

Eligible students are those who have a high school diploma or General Educational Diploma (GED) Certificate. The Academy will verify the authenticity of the diploma prior to enrollment. If the diploma cannot be verified, the student may be asked to provide a final high school transcript showing the dates of entrance and graduation and the courses completed. If a transcript is not available, the student will be required to meet the ability to benefit (ATB) requirements or take and pass a GED test prior to enrollment. In addition to those students enrolling under the ability to benefit testing, all prospective enrollees must take and pass an entrance exam prior to class start.

Ability to Benefit (ATB)

Prospective students who are beyond the age of compulsory attendance in the state of California (18 years of age), have a minimum 10th grade education, and have the ability to benefit from the training may also qualify for admission to the Academy.  The ability to benefit from the training will be determined by taking and passing an entrance examination (ATB Test), a personal interview, and any other criteria that might be appropriate on an individual basis. Students may also establish ability to benefit by enrolling in the Academy on a prepaid cash basis and completing, or transferring in, 225 clock hours in their selected program. When 225 clock hours have been satisfactorily completed, the student may be eligible for Financial Aid.

Kansas Requirements

Only students 16 years of age holding High School Diplomas or General Education Diploma (GED) Certificates will be admitted. The Academy will verify the authenticity of the diploma prior to enrollment. If the diploma cannot be verified, the student may be asked to provide a final high school transcript showing the dates of entrance and graduation and the courses completed. If a transcript is not available, the student will be required to take and pass a GED test prior to enrollment. All prospective enrollees must take and pass an entrance exam prior to class start. Students must have attained the age of 17 before applying to take the Kansas Cosmetology Examination. Each applicant must have a current driver’s license or I.D. and Social Security number. Upon acceptance into the Academy, each student enrolled in cosmetology, esthetics or nail technology must have an Apprentice License issued by the Kansas Board of Cosmetology and must be free from infectious and contagious diseases.

  • You must meet with an Instructor from our academy for an interview.
  • Once hours have been determined, Financial Aid will be pro-rated according to the remaining hours left in the program.

POLICY ON TRANSFER OF CREDITS

CREDIT FOR PREVIOUS TRAINING

Students who have had prior training outside the states of California and/or Kansas must furnish proof of the number of hours of training to either the California Board of Barbering and Cosmetology or to the Kansas Board of Cosmetology and to the Academy. The respective Board will evaluate the training and assign the number of hours of credit to be granted, and then will notify the student. Students with prior training within the states of California and/or Kansas must furnish proof of that training to the Academy in which they wish to re-enroll. The Academy only accepts transfer students under certain conditions. Students who discontinue their training program are eligible to transfer allowable hours per state law, providing certain Academy obligations have been satisfied.
