THE FINAL WEEK: Zoie McClouskey

Final week of BE Creative and I couldn’t be more bummed! This week is going to be insanely busy and I’m extremely excited, but also so sad this journey will be coming to an end. The last six weeks preparing for the final phase (our collection photo shoot) is coming to a close and I can’t believe it’s already here!

I had chosen to bring in two models for the shoot. I wanted to get in a couple different looks since I had the opportunity. I was super excited to get to shoot with Leo Malevanchik again. I’ve been fortunate enough to have worked with him in the past and new it was bound to make magic getting to work with him yet again!

My two models both were MAJOR projects. I definitely had my work cut out for me. My first model had grown-out color and had no shape left to her cut. I was stoked to have been given creative freedom with whatever techniques I wanted to put together that I’d learned in the course of the class. I wanted to make her hair a bright platinum with pops of bright yellow to accentuate bits of her cut. She has naturally curly hair, which I’m obsessed with showing off natural texture, I was excited to execute some of the layering and graduation techniques we’ve learned. I wanted to expand her natural curl shape and make it as accentuated as possible. I am SO pleased with how it all came out! And my model loves it too!!

My second model, again, major project. Very dark natural level grown out with leftover at home blue/ teal in her ends. Whew! This gal has always been my go-to model for any fun projects I have, so I was so excited to get her back in front of the camera again! I chopped her hair to a classic square bob with a cute little micro fringe and brought her color up to a berry, magenta, violet color melt.It was so fun getting to play with color lines I don’t typically use at my salon. I loved the results!

Shoot day was such a whirlwind of a day! I took it upon myself to do my own makeup on my girls since I’m a make up artist as well (and bit of a control freak!). We all decided to tie in our looks for our models with a diffused eyeshadow look. We also shot each of our girls with funky sunglasses I picked up at a second hand store. I had a blast shopping around thrift stores and what not for wardrobe to supply for the collection. I used to do wardrobe styling a while ago, so it was a great time getting back into it!

The collection came out amazing and seeing the caliber of talent come out of the girls (my classmates) was incredible. I’m so proud of each and every one of them. The two gals who are still finishing up their hours in their cosmo program, I had such joy in watching them grow over the course of the last 6 weeks. I see great passion in them and watching them have their lightbulb moments in this class was so amazing.

In the last six weeks, I have grown so much as a hair artist and as a person. This course has tested my patience, pushed me outside my comfort zone and relit a fire under my passion. I am so fortunate to have been given the opportunity  to step back into the halls of Bellus. I jokingly asked Todd if I could just come back and hangout next week after class is over! I adore getting to be a part of the Bellus family as alumni and I take great pride in that as well.

It’s bittersweet to be going back to real life again. The long hours and crazy schedule is always 100% worth it in getting to be back at Bellus. Much thanks!

THE FINAL WEEK: Nicole Greer

The sixth and final week of B.E. Creative was so bitter sweet. It was so sad to say goodbye to the class, along with our instructors and our classmates. We built a pretty awesome bond that I will never forget. At the same time, it was so rewarding to see all of our hard work pay off and have everything come together for our final photo shoot.

Even though, my entire original vision wasn’t completely realized, I was extremely happy with the outcome of my photos.  I spent a long time on the cut and color, as well as making sure my model (a mother of 2) was happy going back in to her every day life!

This class was an awesome stepping stone toward becoming a better hairstylist and if you don’t have the chance to take it while you’re at Bellus, or never attended Bellus, I would highly recommend going back and taking it.  You can never stop reviewing and learning in this industry and that’s why I love it so much! I’m so happy I chose Bellus!
