At Bellus Academy, our mission is to provide our students with the support and resources they need to not only complete their training program, but also succeed in the real world beyond. Students at Bellus Academy receive hands-on skills training, business and marketing training, and job readiness training. Furthermore, students and alumni receive networking and placement support through the academy’s Career Services Department, a dedicated team committed to helping Bellus Academy alumni achieve their career goals after graduation. 

The Career Services Department at Bellus Academy empowers alumni to reach their career goals by providing support and services, including professional development, personalized portfolio building, resume creation, job development, job-search strategies and assistance in the job-market, interviewing techniques, and referrals to community support services. We have close relationships with a large network of salons, spas, and professional beauty brands, and we partner with local employers in the community to assist our alumni with employment opportunities. 

Bellus Academy Offers Alumni Industry Events and Networking

Throughout the year, Bellus Academy offers our students and alumni several opportunities to engage with industry professionals and other aspiring professionals through fashion shows, career fairs and networking events. These opportunities give our students and alumni the chance to meet face-to-face with employers, network with industry professionals, and even participate in event competitions where they are seen by international companies. Bellus Academy also frequently brings students and alumni to fashion show events where they can practice their skills and make important industry connections. 

Over the last year, Bellus Academy hosted several exciting alumni events. In December, alumni were welcomed to an exclusive event called “The Art of Massage.” Alumni received a free hands-on learning experience, including an inspiring presentation and live demo from Repêchage, showcasing facial massage techniques that elevate the client experience and enhance the professional skillset. In March, Bellus Academy offered a free training in Advanced Men’s Cuts for alumni. The event, sponsored by Sebastian Top Artist, provided alumni with the opportunity to refresh their skills and learn advanced techniques. Sebastian Top Artist Josh Wagner, who led the training, put it best: “When I saw the alumni work, all of their foundations were exactly the same. They were all so good foundationally, and then when we showed them the advanced techniques, they were able to pick it up just like that. You can’t do that everywhere.” Also in May, Bellus Academy’s Manhattan, KS campus welcomed Sebastian Top Artist and two-time NAHA champion Anthony Cress for a Master The Cut advanced women’s texturing and cutting class. Eleven alumni attended the hands-on session, diving deep into advanced cutting techniques alongside current students. Anthony left the group with advice that speaks to every beauty and wellness professional at any stage of their career: “Stay curious. This industry has so much to offer and staying curious will open up your eyes and your vision to see what else is out there.”

This year Bellus Academy also continued the tradition of bringing students and alumni to large fashion show events. Bellus Academy’s Lead Makeup Educator, Jessica Andrews, once again led the makeup team for this year’s Heartland International Fashion Week at the Zhou B Art Center in Kansas City, Missouri. For years, Jessica has brought her passion, artistry, and leadership to this incredible event – and each year she creates life-changing opportunities for Bellus Academy students to experience the fast-paced world of high fashion backstage. This year, students from the Manhattan campus were brought to Kansas City for the 6th season of this unforgettable hands-on experience. Over the four-day event, Jessica and her crew of Bellus Academy students and alumni provided hair and makeup services for more than 100 models. This amazing opportunity gave students and alumni first-hand experience working behind the scenes of a major fashion production. From runway glam to backstage teamwork, events like these are where creativity, collaboration, and career-building moments come to life.
